Comment function has been down … reactivated

Friday, May 26th, 2006

PLEASE LET ME KNOW if you try to leave a comment and you can’t. Email me. Use the “contact” link at the bottom of the page.

Thanks to Mindy for notifying me this morning that the “comments” function was not allowing people to register to post comments. Another glitch. Have it activated now and will be working on the wording and instructions on the sign-up form so that it’s easier to use.

Am sure that, even after I “officially” launch this site in (more…)

Will this stop trackback spam?

Wednesday, May 10th, 2006

The site has been hit repeatedly by “Buy Tramadol” spam trackbacks from an online druggery the last two days.

Just installed the Rice University Computer Security Lab’s plug-in designed to stop that. It’s called (more…)

Welcome to Mind Body Spirit Journal — My intentions for it

Monday, May 8th, 2006

Mind Body Spirit Journal will differ from Mind Body Spirit Bulletin, the old print version of the publication, in several ways.

1. It will truly be more of a journal. I will use it that way to keep track of observations and discoveries and thoughts and ideas — as well as to post actual, more formal articles.

2. It will update frequently — possibly daily. Whenever I come across anything of interest in the 40-some interest areas Mind-Body-Spirit Bulletin tracked. It will not publish on a one-issue-per-month schedule. In fact, the interest areas will probably expand beyond 40 as it (more…)

Mind Body Spirit Journal officially launches May 15

Saturday, May 6th, 2006

Taking this site live on May 15. (Technically, it’s already live. I haven’t mastered how to develop a WordPress site without being live. But I haven’t started promoting it yet. That begins on May 15.)

Expect to have most of the bugs worked out of the very cool modification of the 3-column Relaxation Theme design by then. Expect to have significant posts up in at least five different sections. Expect to announce the existence of MindBodySpiritJournal.com to a couple lists that day. And never look back.

Am also concurrently launching a public “45-Day Challenge” for developing and launching a self-help e-product. (That announcement is to go out on May 8 or maybe after the 15th. We’ll see.) Those joining the challenge will (more…)

Trying to figure out Trackbacks?

Monday, May 1st, 2006

I was trying to figure out trackbacks–just how they work, how to do them, etc.

Found this great, easy-to-understand, step-by-step tutorial:

Document EVERY change you make to a theme in WordPress

Sunday, April 23rd, 2006

Lesson learned.

A theme in WordPress controls how the various elements appear on the page: What goes where, in what typestyle and color and so on.

After almost giving up on the 3-column Relaxation theme I chose for Mind Body Spirit Journal last September, I switched to the new Regulus theme–just to get things rolling.

(I haven’t completely given up on Relaxation and am going to try to find expert help this week to give it one last big shove. If it won’t go, then I’ll junk it.)

Regulus is Ben Gillbanks’ clean, simple looking new theme. It has gone through many, many (more…)

Getting started is sometimes the hardest thing

Friday, April 21st, 2006

Mark Twain wrote:

“The secret of getting ahead is getting started. The secret of getting started is breaking your complex overwhelming tasks into small manageable tasks, and then starting on the first one.”

 As George Bush said:

“Mission accomplished.”

Errrr. Maybe I should rephrase that.

Start somewhere

Friday, April 21st, 2006

Got to start somewhere. After spending literally six months trying to get the beautiful 3-column Relaxation theme to do some relatively simple (I think) things on my other server, I have nearly given up.

Am starting anew here on this server with “Mind Body Spirit Journal.” (Changed the name a bit from the original print version’s “Mind Body Spirit Bulletin.” Will post why later. For now, suffice to say journal will be more representative than bulletin of the form this publication will take in its online incarnation.)Am experimenting currently with the Regulus theme–which also has some limitations that I find frustating, but overall seems pretty simple and clean. May very well need to change the theme again, and definitely will be refining and upgrading things a LOT as I get this design to work with my vision of how Mind Body Spirit Journal should work. Would love to get my Relaxation-theme color scheme and column widths back. Regulus, it appears, lets me start posting again with working categories and leaves me no excuse to procrastinate any longer.

So I’ll get the writing work underway again while we keep working out things with the design. I found an angel, Terry of SuperAffiliate.com who thinks she can quickly figure out what I’m doing wrong with the Relaxation theme. Bet she does. Bet I have it up and running in this space within two weeks.

Mind Body Spirit Journal online is officially underway… Again. Warts and all. And its complexion will be clearing, remarkably, in the days and weeks to come.
