Trends may predict a dismal future for coaching

At a recent teleconference of coaching experts a number of trends were noted that could be predictive of some difficult times ahead for coaching. Here is a summary of the key points.

* No consensus exists as to whether coaching qualifies as a “profession.” While it is often referred to as a “discipline,” “area,” “field,” or “arena,” coaching has yet to fully embrace the criteria typically associated with the definition of a profession. Some experts noted that this was a “good thing” in that coaching maintained its connection with its grass roots origins.

* Too few coaches are actually able to make a living as coaches. More coaches are leaving the field after finding that (more…)

RESOURCE: Free teleconference service WITH free recording of calls

Friday, July 7th, 2006

I’m testing a new free teleconference service. (That’s a “bridge line,” to you coaches out there.)

It lets me host up to 100 callers at any time — no advance reservations needed.

Immediately after the call, I can download a digital recording of it.

Pretty cool.

Could you use this? Would you like free access? Read on:

The recording can be posted on a webpage or burned to CD or sold as an e-program or given away as a bonus product with some other offer. Or edited and cleaned up and added to a larger recording. Would love to hear other ways YOU use teleclass recordings. (Share by clicking the ‘Comments’ link below.)

How can they afford to give this away?

Will this service be free forever?

How long is forever? This is the Web, after all.

The company hopes to etch out a profit by upselling satisfied users and corporations to its toll-free-dial-in premium conference service — which costs the host from 4 cents to 6 cents per minute, depending upon which pre-pay plan you buy.

Want your own free, 24/7 teleconference line — with free recording capability? Takes less than 30 seconds to set up. Visit this link: (more…)

FREE RESOURCE: Little-known marketing technique draws clients like crazy — almost instantly — without hype, ’selling,’ pressure or pitches — and keeps them coming back — and even has them REFERRING OTHERS TO YOU. Would you find that useful?

Thursday, June 29th, 2006

If you hate selling, you’ll LOVE Robert Middleton.

Heard of him?

His practice-building and business-building strategies are magnetic.

He teaches you to do comfortable, helpful things that potential clients crave and want more and more of. Things that cause them to look up to you as a respected expert, to turn to you when they have a problem you can solve, and to gladly pull out the credit card.

You don’t need to play manipulative, high-pressure sales games with potential clients, Middleton says.

He says, “You can be a better marketer and attract all the clients you can handle — without sacrificing your integrity.”

I bought his InfoGuru Marketing Manual years ago and am still finding new ways to implement it with various projects and am always still surprised to see how quickly and how well people respond to the Middleton method. It stills surprises me how quickly these little-known, no-hype techniques bring welcome results.

The manual is an extraordinary bargain at $69 (for the lowest-priced version).

That’s a tiny price to pay for expert handholding, marketing mastery and mentoring from a right-livelihood, value-based and values-based marketing pro.

If you’re like me, you’ll still be finding new ways to implement pieces of it years from now and you’ll still be surprised at how well it continues to work.

Companies routinely pay $40,000 to $50,000 for a week’s worth of this kind of help from top-notch consultants.

Put away your checkbook. : ) Because now you can get the heart of it for FREE.

No tricks. You don’t have to spend a DIME.

Read on to find out how. (more…)

Amazon ‘bestseller’ — take two: The power of an explosive launch

Thursday, June 29th, 2006

by Ken Winston Caine

Position 1: It’s highly misleading* to refer to your e-book as a “bestseller” if, through a massive launch effort you managed to get it to hit Amazon’s top 10 for a few minutes in one 24-hour period.

Position 2: Powerful, focused launch techniques (of which the Amazon bestseller trick is one) overall are good things — for several reasons:

Good thing reason one: They require you to (more…)

The ‘Amazon bestseller’ scam is getting pretty overworked

Tuesday, June 27th, 2006

by Ken Winston Caine

Andrea Lee writes on her blog about why she will never do one of those one-day, make-my-new-eBook-an-Amazon-bestseller campaigns.

I’ll add the reason I won’t do one.

Claiming to have a best-selling book because you were able to game Amazon’s system for a few minutes on one day so that it appeared that (more…)

Pros have programs and ‘further information’ for SALE on their sites

Thursday, June 22nd, 2006

by Ken Winston Caine

If people like you and what you are about, they want to buy your stuff. They want you to have stuff for them to buy. They want to learn more of what you have to offer. They want to talk to you after you give talks. They want to buy your books at the back of the room. They want to “invest” in you — or actually, they want to invest in themselves through you.

They expect to have those opportunities if you are a professional working in personal development and self-help. They expect to find those opportunities if you are for real and not just some pretender who figured out how to build a website.

You disappoint and confuse them if on your website you don’t offer a report, an e-book, a program, various ways for them to (more…)

Lots of ‘commerce’ work next couple weeks

Monday, June 12th, 2006

Next couple weeks I’m going to be focusing on commercializing Mind Body Spirit Journal, which is long overdue. Believe I’ve got enough editorial categories started to give me something to work with.

This site really doesn’t work until it begins offering useful self-help products and opportunities that readers are eager to hear about and invest in. And until it begins drawing folks because it delivers really useful and valuable offerings. When the site is clearly a vibrant marketplace as well as an inside information source and community, it will instantly command the kind of respect I expect it to grow into and deserve. And I’ll be able to easily draw big names from the greater world of Mind Body Spirit for interviews and online workshops and meetups and other cool (more…)

Why you should never give away advertising and 9 other sacred rules when building an advertising-supported publication

Wednesday, May 17th, 2006

If you are building a publication — online or off — with paid advertising as a business model, here are this old publisher, journalist and marketing exec’s 10 Sacred Rules:

1. Never give away advertising. You destroy your business model when you do. You say to advertisers and potential advertisers that space in your publication has little or no value. They get (more…)
